Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in the Magic of Christmas!

Without volunteers, our organization would not be able to run.  Every year we pull together hundreds of volunteers who spend November and December working hard to collect and sort donations and then head out Christmas Eve to share in the joys of Christmas with people who need a little holiday cheer.  We’d love to have you join us!

All elves and Santa’s are required to register prior to volunteering.

Why do I need to register?

  • We require you to register every year for our insurance requirements.
  • We Are striving to improve our processes and be more organized.
  • We will be setting up a few committees this year.
  • If you would like to get more involved join a committee or 2 .
  • Each volunteer is required to complete a SIGNED Release Form.
  • Before you come down to Elf Orientation , please download Release Form and bring it with you

Take a look at all the volunteer positions available and think about what shift(s) you are able to do.

  • Remember, the warehouse needs volunteers to help sort the week before too! Though we try to accommodate everyone, it is good to have a couple in mind.
  • Take note of the Orientation day and make sure you are able to attend (Elf Rally)

Show Elves

We perform Christmas Shows from November, right up to Christmas to raise funds and gifts so we need elves and Santas to bring a special touch to corporate Santa parties from November through December.  This is essential training for those who wish to go out on the bus on Christmas Eve!

Workshop Elves

These awesome elves sort, organize, pack, pile, help fill Santa’s sleigh. We need 100 workshop elves for the entire week leading up to Christmas to help sort donations in our giant warehouse.

Pickup drivers

Since Santa’s sleigh can not pick up all the donations we receive, we need some help to pick up the boxes of donations scattered throughout the city.  If you can volunteer to pickup even one box of donations in your neighbourhood, you’ll be a hero!

Publicity and Donation Elves

Do you know anyone in the media that could help us get the word out?  Do you know anyone who makes videos who would like to help make promotional videos?  Do you know a local celebrity that might be interested in tweeting about us, coming to an event , etc?  Do you work for a company who would like to help a local charity by sponsoring us, allowing us to do a fundraiser in their space or hosting a donation box?  We need all the help we can get to tell people about our charity and to garner donations for the people we help.

Bus Elves

Ride with Santa to make home visits on Christmas Eve and spread loving, caring and sharing to people in despair.  This position is truly a privilege for all the elves who have worked hard all year to make this event a success.  If you wish to go out on the Magic buses, please volunteer for elf shows, to be a pickup driver or to work in our workshop for a few hours.

Elf Orientation/ Santa  & CEO Training – See dates on the EVENTS PAGE

All Elves are required to attend the Elf Orientation each year.  This orientation allows you to understand what is expected from each and every elf.  We present to you the spirit of  The Magic of Christmas

If you want to be a Santa … Remember that Santas come in all sizes and shapes, but share common qualities – a caring disposition and an upbeat personality, a good listener, non-judgmental of the families he visits and keeps his elves smiling and singing.

Santa and C.E.O. (Chief Elf On-board) training will occur prior to Elf Orientation.  It is important to attend the training as without it you may be denied the opportunity to perform the role.  If you are unable to attend the training, please call Shirley at The Magic of Christmas office at 403-803-1619 to have an individual training scheduled another time.

It is very important that Santa and all the Elves have fun on Christmas Eve – as this is a key component to deliver the loving, caring and sharing experience.

REMEMBER that The Magic of Christmas has a zero-tolerance level for ANYONE consuming drugs or alcohol prior to any shift.

*Though we try to accommodate everyone’s request, volunteer assignments are subject to change depending on need. Positions will be assigned with a preference to returning elves or to elves who have volunteered in other capacities, such as sorting, picking up donations, workshop, etc.

**All volunteers must be over 8 years old. Only those 16 years and older will be eligible for the night bus runs and hospital visits.
