THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS (MoC) announces that its elected Executive approved an update to its formal mission statement and renews its commitment to the community for 2021 and beyond.

November 19, 2021

NEW MISSION: “Our mission is to deliver Christmas spirit into the homes and hearts of those who need it most and invite everyone to believe (again!) in the true spirit and The Magic of Christmas.”

NEW VISION: “Every year, when Christmas-time comes, many Calgary families (for various reasons) struggle to find the joy of the season. In addition, Calgary seniors and others living in continuing care can feel especially isolated during the Holidays. The reasons vary, but we know all can benefit from a magical visit from Santa and the elves.”

Last year, when other charities were unable to deliver their programs during the holidays, The Magic of Christmas persevered and found innovative ways to deliver the hope and joy so desperately needed within our community. With guidance from AHS, the dedicated volunteers devised new methods to meet the need while minimizing health and safety risks for everyone.

Making things even more challenging for the charity in 2020, MoC received a record-breaking number of referrals for families in need at Christmas resulting in 800 families getting an outdoor (covid-safe) visit from Santa and the Elves on Christmas Eve and delivering 3760 Magic of Christmas teddy bears to residents of 22 healthcare facilities across the city.

Last years unparalleled achievement led the executive team to pause and reflect on the future of the foundation. “It was clear that 2020 was a difficult time for Calgarians and that there was a growing need in the community for our services. The value we deliver at Christmas is more than the gifts. We hear time and time again that getting a visit from The Magic of Christmas is powerful because they know that there are people who care,” said Scott Perley, President of The Magic of Christmas. “We had to really think about where our priority was going lie in the future.”

The local charity expects to see an increase in demand, yet again, for it to deliver their unique and magical Christmas experience. The charity relies solely on donation from the community and does not receive any government funding.

Just like the Christmas tale goes…. neither sleet nor snow will stop Old St. Nick from delivering his toys! It’s true, when people work together, Magic happens!

Like every silver lining, through challenge comes enlightenment.  In order to know where we are going, it’s important to go back to where it began, recapturing that sense of wonderment, joy, and hope which was the foundation principal of founder Bob Johnson.

MoC’s re-imagined mission statement was approved as part of a renewed dedication to providing quality experiences to each family, and the people of every age we visit. Going forward this mission will be the guide for the organization’s future infrastructure, programs and projects.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of Calgarians every year and we are excited for the future of the Magic of Christmas,” explained Scott. “Our founding vision is still very much the root of everything we do. It’s always been more than just gifts, it’s about the experience and our visits become a reminder that people care. We are now even more focused on helping people believe in the Magic again.”

We will help the community rediscover their belief in the Magic of Christmas again!
